Dear Mayor Ireland and Councilmen Johnson, Romero, Torre and Skadron, Thank you for your service to Aspen. These are challenging times for our community, and in your elected leadership role, you are in the position to dramatically impact our City's future. The following is a list of 10 priorities that I feel are imperative for City Council to address, in no particular order. These are all enormously important issues: - Hold the line on (or reduce) property taxes - Create a new Strategic Plan for Affordable Housing, including dealing with Capital Reserves. - Demonstrate fiscal responsibility: balance the City's 2009 budget and be conservative with 2010 planning - Resolve the Post-WWII Historic Preservation issue - Adopt a City-wide business-friendly approach - Complete the AACP and address its Intended Use - Address traffic and the Entrance to Aspen issue with actionable solutions - Always Be Civil - Conduct Council meetings that encourage citizen involvement - Provide management guidance to the City Manager Thank you in advance for your efforts to continually foster constructive dialog as we work together as a community to reach our common goals and/or negotiate for mutually acceptable compromises.
